Drive along the enchanting Michigan Lakeshore, where sandy beaches and breathtaking sunsets set the stage for your dream honeymoon. Experience Western Michigan with stops in Holland and South Haven, and Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.
Day 1 - Arrival in Holland
- Morning: Arrive in Holland and check into your accommodation. Consider staying at a cozy bed-and-breakfast or a lakeside resort. Holland Farmhouse B&B or Centennial Inn are some great options.
- Afternoon: Explore downtown Holland. Visit the Windmill Island Gardens to see a working Dutch windmill and beautiful gardens.
- Evening: Enjoy a romantic dinner at a local restaurant like The Depot Restaurant or The Whitcomb. Take a stroll along Holland’s Lake Michigan beach to watch the sunset.
Day 2 - Holland Exploration
- Morning: Visit Holland State Park for a walk on the beach and climb the Big Red Lighthouse for fantastic lake views.
- Afternoon: Explore the Holland Historical Trust and Nelson DeWey Park or enjoy shopping at local boutiques.
- Evening: Dine at Holland’s Downtown Market or Beechwood Grill for a relaxed, casual meal.
Day 3 - Travel to South Haven
- Morning: Depart for South Haven (approximately 1 hour drive). Check into a charming bed-and-breakfast or waterfront inn. Consider Waters View Inn or Carriage House at the Harbor.
- Afternoon: Visit the South Haven Lighthouse and explore the South Haven Harbor.
- Evening: Enjoy dinner at a lakeside restaurant such as Clementine’s or The Black River Tavern.
Day 4 - South Haven Adventures
- Morning: Spend the morning at South Haven’s Beaches or take a boat tour of Lake Michigan. Fresh Coast Sailing is a great option for a guided sailing adventure, Sunsetter Scenic Tours or Jensen Charters are some other great options for a scenic ride!
- Afternoon: Visit the Michigan Maritime Museum or explore local parks and trails.
- Evening: Enjoy a relaxing dinner at The Foundry or Misty’s. Consider a sunset walk on the pier.
Day 5 - Scenic Drive to Sleeping Bear Dunes
- Morning: Depart South Haven and drive north along the scenic western Michigan coastline. Stop at picturesque towns like Saugatuck and Douglas.
- Afternoon: Continue your drive to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Check into your accommodation in Glen Arbor or Empire. Thyme Inn and Glen Arbor Bed and Breakfast Condos are some great options!
- Evening: Relax and have dinner at a local restaurant such as The Cherry Republic Café or Art’s Tavern in Glen Arbor.
Day 6 - Exploring Sleeping Bear Dunes
- Morning: Start your day with a hike on the Dune Climb for incredible views and a challenging adventure. This hike is very strenuous (and there is a hefty fee if you traverse down, but can’t make it back up, so bear this in mind!).
- Afternoon: Explore Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive with its panoramic overlooks. Visit Lake Michigan’s beaches at Platte River Point or Empire Beach.
- Evening: Enjoy a picnic dinner on the beach or dine at a nearby restaurant. Consider a quiet evening watching the stars or taking a sunset walk.
Day 7 - Relaxation and Departure
- Morning: Take a final hike on the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail or a relaxing walk around the park.
- Afternoon: Visit any missed spots or enjoy a last visit to the beach. Explore Glen Arbor or nearby towns if you have time.
- Evening: Depart for home, cherishing the memories of your romantic and scenic lakeshore honeymoon.

Blueberry Festival: if you are visiting in August, you may be in South Haven for their yearly Blueberry Festival! We went and had a blast trying out different blueberry favored items, exploring the local vendors, and walking the lakeshore.
